Alex Wander

Based between London and Bristol, I am a multi-instrumentalist, composer, and engineer. I cut my teeth engineering live sessions and quickly moved into the production world, working with artists on projects across a range of genres from Folk to Indie to Rap. Now residing as an engineer and assistant at Mill Hill Music Complex in London, I also run a remote mixing setup which champions a range of homemade and analog equipment to get the most out of recordings.

Working With Me

This section covers how sessions, payment, and revisions work. Have a read if you’re looking to book anything - it answers most questions I get, but feel free to get in touch if anything’s unclear.

I work in pre-booked time blocks, both remotely and in-person. Once we’ve agreed on hours and a rough timeframe, I’ll send an invoice including a deposit. The deposit is generally 50% of the session fee + any studio hire costs (only required if booking studio time). The deposit confirms your booking; the remaining fee is due on completion, before final files are delivered.
Cancellation within 7 days of the session date forfeits the deposit, as that time was held exclusively for you and is difficult to fill at short notice. If I can fill the slot in time I’ll refund it, but I can’t guarantee that. If studio time was also booked, this part of the deposit is always non-refundable as I still have to pay the studio fee regardless.
The booking system works the same either way. Remotely, you send me project files or stems and I work through the agreed hours. In-person, we work together at a studio - all costs are included in the quoted fee.
Of course. I’ll work developing your idea for the booked time - how far it comes really depends on the materials provided. There’s no fixed “finished” target baked into the price. I’ll generally give you a sense of how far I think I can get before accepting the project, but this varies.
Before final payment I’ll send an MP3 of the completed work. On receipt of full payment, I’ll deliver a bounce (MP3 + WAV), and/or stems, and/or project files depending on the project - usually via Google Drive, WeTransfer, or Dropbox.
Invoices unpaid more than 7 days after the due date incur a £25 admin fee per week overdue, up to £100. High-quality files are withheld until full payment - including any accrued late fees - is received.
My work typically covers engineering, mixing, and production. Occasionally, on projects starting from a rough idea, my input extends into songwriting - melody, chords, lyrics, or arrangement. In that case we’ll agree on a credit and/or writing split that reflects my contribution before any release; I don’t have a set agreement for this, it’s decided case by case.
I don’t have a fixed rate card - pricing is quoted per project based on session type. Feel free to get in touch for a quote.

  • Deposit - Where shown, the deposit is due immediately to confirm your booking. The remaining balance is due by the date specified.
  • Credits - Appropriate credit must appear on all labels, sleeves, digital artwork, and online listings - e.g. "Recorded/Engineered by Alex Wander", "Mixed by Alex Wander", "Produced by Alex Wander", or a combination.
  • Compositional/Performance contributions - Where input extends into writing or performance, credit and/or a songwriting split must be agreed in writing before final release.
  • Cancellations - Cancellation within 7 days of the session date forfeits the deposit.
  • Release of recordings - No final recordings, stems, or session data will be released, and ownership will not transfer, until full payment including any accrued late fees is received.
